Learning Styles

Learning styles differ in individuals, there are a variety of different learning styles these range from active to global and requier us to learn in a way which best suites our learning style. However an individual can have a mix of leaning styles this is known as mutimodel.

Active learners retain and understand information best by discussing it or applying it, they prefer group work and find it difficult to sit in classes just taking notes.

Reflective Learners understand things best when they think about it, they like to work alone and need time in class to think.

Sensing Learners like to learn facts; don’t like complications or surprises they solve problems using established methods, they are good with hands on work and like information applied to real life situations.

Intuitive Learners prefer discovering things for themselves, love innovation, hate repetition; they are better at grasping new concepts, like working with formulas.
However they may be careless with work.

Visual Learners remember what they see, like visual material and colour

Verbal Learners tend to get more from written materials they prefer verbal discussion and like to have things verbally explained.

Sequential Learners gain understanding in small sequential, logical steps; tend to follow logical stepwise paths while problem solving. May not understand material fully but are still able to solve problems and pass tests; may know a lot about specific aspects of a subject, but may have trouble relating them.

Global learners seem to learn in large jumps, randomly absorbing information and then suddenly ‘get it’; may be able to solve complex problems quickly ones they have grasped the big picture.

My preferred learning style is kinesthetic; this means I like to learn by doing or trying things.

Now that I know that my learning style is Kinesthetic, I can apply this to my academic life by focusing on learning in this way to achieve this I could; try to apply a mathematical problem, this would help me overcome my difficulties with math and would explain why I can work out chemical equations but not algebraic equations.
